What I'm listening to (1)
I think the vibe here is: long songs with vocals.
Elephant Man
The whole collection is cool, but this one track is pretty intoxicating. No idea what it's about. The refrain is just "run the place like Elephant Man". Over and over. It's cool. It's almost all refrain. Until the outro, which is longer than the song itself, and basically just a few gossamer keyboard phrases on two chords.
Reminds me a little of "Accordion", the Madvillain song, in that it's this weird mix of hard/soft, and kind of out of time with itself. But it stretches out a lot more.
("Accordion" has been in my head a lot, lately. "Livin' off borrowed time, the clock ticks faster".)
Paralyzed - Oneida
Whole album's great, but these long motorik ones really do it for me.
In There - P.W. Long
Ghost song.
Pink + White - Frank Ocean
Why'd I sleep on this for so long? I think maybe the pitch-shifted vocal thing on the first track always threw me off? But now I like it?
Anyway, this whole album. It's a big long thing, with a ton of ideas.
big daddy ya - Yaya bey
Lots of characters in this one. Like Blonde, greater than the sum of its parts.
VIRGO'S GROOVE - Beyoncé
I've never really been a Beyoncé guy. Really dug those last two Solange albums, but that was as close as I got. But this album is both incredibly fun and incredibly horny. Haha. It rules.
Drifting - Slow Fawns
I'm a sucker for the way that guitar bends in right after the vocal.
June - Destroyer
More vocal pitch-shifting! Stick around for the end. I think this is my favorite Destroyer song.
A MECHANICAL JOEY - BILL ORCUTT
Just submit to it. Submission is the only path.

Did you make it all the way through that last one? Nice. Here's one more, a little reward:
